After her lengthy research session, Skye headed to the restaurant, hoping that Shinkan and Saku would be there at some point. She plopped down at a table by one of he windows, and ordered some green tea to start with. Sipping it thoughtfully, her mind drifted to the research she had done. She wondered where she could go to practice her skills with little or no detection. She didn't know what to expect from herself, and didn't want to cause any harm to anyone else. She supposed it would have to wait until morning. Even though she was feeling okay, she was still exhausted from the events that day.
She brushed her wild hair away from her face and watched the orange glow of the sunset setting the world on fire. She realized suddenly that she had not called her parents since her arrival. She supposed she must have been so excited about actually being here that it slipped her mind. Making a promise to herself to call them after dinner this evening, she placed an order of a fried tofu maki roll and a shrimp tempura roll, and trailed off into her own thoughts again.

"I hope I'm not too late to join you?" Saku asked as he strode up to the table Skye was at. He smiled warmly at her and pulled a chair out for himself. Though he was dressed the same as he was eariler that day, the black long coat had a much higher thread count, making it shiny and it moved and swayed like a normal coat, no weapons tucked away inside. He still looked tired, but much less than he did before. He brushed a few errant strands from his face and ordered a glass of cold sweet tea, then turned his attnetion to Skye. "So, find out anything interesting?" He asked.

"Saku!" Skye exclaimed in pleasant surprise. "Glad you made it!"
She returned his warm smile, a light pink touching her cheeks. She took a sip of her green tea, though her eyes stayed focused on him with a cheerful intensity. He smelled like shower, and the thought made her smile for no particular reason. She was glad he had taken the time to rest and relax.
When he asked her about what she had found, a surge of excited energy flooded through her. Finally, someone to share it with!
"A lot, actually," she told him. "Gengoro was my ancestor. He was a kitsune that protected this village long ago. He was really fast, which I guess explains why I like running so much! He was also really strong. I think the book said he had the strength of ten men. He was nicknamed the "express messenger," because I guess he used to deliver messages for people. The books say he was killed by a dog, which I suppose means my fear of dogs is no coincidence either..."
She paused to take an excited breath, and continued in her flurry of explanation.
"And, Saku! Apparently I have all these powers beside transformation! I'm really excited to test them out, but I need to find someplace where I won't hurt anyone. And however many tails a kitsune has determines how powerful they are, and..."
She trailed off, nearly breathless. The reality of these qualities belonging to her finally began to sink in. This was who she was. She knew somehow that she had fully awakened as her true self. She felt a shiver run from the roots of her hair down her back, as if shedding one final layer of disbelief.
"I'm sorry," she said with a chuckle. "I'm really rambling on. How are you doing? Are you feeling better? Have you seen Shinkan?"
Suddenly, the waiter came up with Skye's order and asked Saku if he wanted anything. Not wanting to be rude, Skye sat back in her chair, quiet at last.

Pacing back and forth just outside of one of the entrances, Shinkan struggles with her fear and her desire to join her friends. She thought she'd be fine, but upon seeing Saku and Skye sitting there, chatting amiably, well, her nerve suddenly fails her. So now she shuffles back and forth, on the patio of the outside area of the restaurant. Pausing, she moves to the edge of the propped open door, getting a quick peek before withdrawing back. Standing still, she stares off into thought, chewing absently on her left thumbnail. What to do? Skye invited me, but what about Saku? ... he could hate me, I was the one who hurt him... Guilt eats away at her, followed closely by indecision.
The silver haired girl is dressed in the same clothes from before, she never changed out of them. They're a bit rumpled and marked with dirt and grass stains on her knees, legs, and rear end, but she doesn't seem to notice or care. The only thing that's different is that her hair is no longer held back in a loose pony tail. It falls, a shimmering waterfall cascading over her shoulder and down her back. Still biting at her thumb nail, her canine slips underneath it and dislodges a small amount of grit. Grimacing at the taste, Shinkan withdraws her hands and stares at them. They're rather grimy, dusted with dirt and small wood slivers. Sighing at the sight, she wipes them on her pant leg, only cleaning them up a bit. I should have at least gone to my room to clean up.., she muses to herself.
In fact, she never went back to her room. Upon arriving at the Inn, she'd simply wandered the grounds, avoiding people and reviewing the events of earlier. Eventually, she'd ended up in the gardens, and tired of thinking about it so much, she'd simply set to work weeding and what not. She'd lost herself in the quiet, yet soothing activity of gardening, temporarily forgetting what had happened.
Glancing up from her contemplative dip, Shinkan steps up to the door and once again peeks around it. It seems that there's a lull in conversation as a waiter approaches the table with food. Making a decision, she takes in a deep breathe and enters the restaurant. Silently, she makes her way towards her two friends, an unsure smile on her lips.

Saku listened aptly, with the thumb and fore finger of his left hand on his chin while his elbow leaned on the table. It was bad table manners true, but aside from Skye's tea there wasn't any other food on the table. He smiled the whole time she spoke, his interest clearly showing through with every word she spoke, he'd noted the slight blush she'd given off when he arrived. He thought inwardly for a moment, why wasn't he feeling nervous now as he almost always did around pretty girls? I guess a little sleep can do wonders for one's self-esteem as well as energy. He glanced up at the waiter as he arrived and Skye trailed off, took his tea and sipped it then gave a satisfied sigh. "Thank you sir, we're expecting a friend to join us soon, we'll order when she arrives." He said to the waiter and sent him on his way.
Saku leaned back in his chair and noticed just how big and comfortable they were with a look of mild surprise on his face. After a moment he smiled and turned his attention back to Skye. "No, it's alright. You weren't rambling at all, and I'm fine. The nap I took helped, after a good meal, a hot bath and a un-interrupted night's sleep; I'll be good as new again." After a moment he glanced toward the patio area which was out of sight for Skye and though he couldn't see her, he could sense Shinkan's presence. "I haven't seen Shinkan but she'll join us before long. Now, as for your powers...." He leaned back again and raised one leg to cross over the knee and let his arms rest on the chair arms. "It sounds like you need a place to experiment and practice, I know just such a place. It's called the Fields, and well as I'm sure you've guessed, it's a large group of fields that are empty." He reached out his hand to pick up his glass and sipped the tea. "If you want," He said after swallowing. "We can go there tomorrow morning, I have need to go myself and train." He looked past Skye to the approaching Shinkan and his face broke into a beaming smile as he stood. "Nice of you to join us Shinkan, please have a seat." He said and pulled out a chair for her.

Skye smiled at how relaxed Saku appeared. She recalled their first meeting earlier that day and how awkward it had been. She relaxed as well when he told her she wasn't babbling on. Her shoulders loosened and fell away from her ears, her face appeared less tight. She folded her arms flat on the table, and rested her chin on them, looking over at Saku with her cheerful indigo eyes.
Her ear twitched, and she felt a presence from somewhere out of her line of sight, and not a second later Saku assured her that Shinkan would be with them soon. She reached further with her newfound senses and realized that the presence was indeed the silver haired girl.
"I can sense her," she said quietly.
Saku then offered to show her a place to train, an offer that sent Skye back into her energetic, excited self. She sat upright in her chair again, her hair flying crazily at the sudden movement.
"Really? That'd be great!" she exclaimed. "I can't wait to see what I can do!"
She giggled, but stopped abruptly as Saku quickly got to his feet, greeting Shinkan with a broad smile. Skye turned her attention to the silver haired girl as well, just as happy to see her friend.
"Shinkan, how are you? I'm glad you came!" Skye reached out and patted her shoulder gently in greeting.

Her slow approach only allows Shinkan to catch the last bit of the conversation between her two friends. Train? Train for what?, she ponders, but before her thoughts could go any further, Saku grins at her, stands, and pulls back a chair, asking her to take a seat. Halting in place in surprise, she darts her glance between Skye and the ninja. Hesitantly, she takes the seat, her expression somewhat confused. They were acting like nothing had happened, as if nothing was wrong.
Starting slightly at Skye's touch to her shoulder, she instantly relaxes. She doesn't know why she's so tense, she just is. But, being back with her friends, who apparently don't hold anything against her, she finds herself at least a bit reassured. Giving a thankful smile to both of her companions, she places her hands on the table, but seeing how dirty they are, she instead drops them down to her lap. Clasping them together, under the table, she peers back at her two friends, unsure what to do. Noticing Saku's tea and catching a whiff of Skye's meal, Shinkan's stomach gives a low rumble. Blushing slightly, she nods to both of them; her expression questioning.

Saku pushed Shinkan's seat in carefully as she sat then sat down himself and took another sip of tea before continuing. "Now, as we were saying, since you came in late," He nodded to Shinakn. "Skye here was telling me that she had found what she was looking for, what kind of powers she has and so forth. I offered to help her train." He smiled a little and noticed Shinkan's apprehension, he signaled the waiter who came over instantly. "Before we order dinner, could you bring my friend a warm, damp cloth to wipe her hands with please?" The waiter nodded with a polite smile and darted off. Saku smiled at Shinkan. "Wouldn't want you to eat dirt now, would we?"

The waiter promptly brought Shinkan a towel for her hands. Skye was delighted to be with both of her friends at last. She offered Saku and Shinkan some of her maki rolls. They both looked pretty hungry and she didn't mind sharing. She was nearing the bottom of her tea as well, and suddenly a thought hit her: calling her parents later tonight would not be a good idea. She completely forgot about the time zone change! With a grimace at the realization, she stood up from the table.
"Gomen," she said stupidly. "I've got to call my parents. I completely forgot..."
She trailed off and walked out onto the patio, reaching into her pocket for her cell phone, almost forgetting that the kitsune ball was in her pocket. She flipped the phone open, and noticed as she was going through her address book that it was totally empty. Narrowing her eyebrows in confusion, she entered the number into the phone and pressed send.
After two rings, her mother picked up. Skye was so happy to hear her voice.
"Mom, it's me!" she said cheerfully.
"Who is this?" the tone was accusing and unamused.
"Mom, it's Skye. I wanted to call you when I got in, but-"
"You must have the wrong number, dear," her mother said.
"No, wait!" Skye exclaimed, feeling more confused than ever. "Mom!"
"If this is a prank call, it isn't funny. I'm hanging up now," her mother said, and hung up the phone.
Confused and panicked, Skye looked at her call log. It was the right number. She had not misdialed. It was her mother's voice on the other line. What was going on?
Frantically, she called again, and this time, her father picked up. Skye greeted him the same way she had greeted her mother, only to get the same response.
"I don't know who you're looking for. We don't have a daughter. I'm sorry."
"I don't understand," she whispered. She dialed her best friend from home, her aunt, her other friends, but none of them knew who she was.
Skye, now teary-eyed, sank to her knees and caught her face in her hands as the tears came. Why didn't they know her? Surely they weren't playing a joke. Everyone sounded so serious. Skye sniffled, her eyes a dark, liquid purple from crying. She ran her hands through her short hair in frustration.
"I don't understand..."
She trailed off, and the anxiety made the world around her spin. She picked up her phone, and tried her parents one more time, this time in tears.
"I'm sorry, dear. We can't help you. You must have the wrong number. We don't even know anyone named Skye."
The shock hitting her head on, Skye could not regain her feet. She remained paralyzed on the floor, holding the phone in her hands, tears streaking uncontrollably down her face.

Listening as Saku explains what she'd walked in on, Shinkan's blush deepens when he calls over the waiter and orders the wet clothe. At the question and amusement ringing under the ninja's words, she drops her eyes to the table and gives a small shake. No... But she looks up when the waiter returns, rather quickly. Giving a small smile, the silver haired girl accepts it and washes as much dirt off of her hands as was possible with a warm, wet clothe. Finishing the task, she gives an apologetic smile the waiter's way, but he simply winks at her, takes it, and moves away. Throwing him a confused look, she then returns her attention back to her two friends.
Giving a grateful grin Skye's way, she gives a nod of thanks before accepting the offered maki rolls. She devours one and is starting on another when the little blond announces that she's going to call her parents. Parents..., she thinks, a sense of loss welling inside of her, although why she's feeling it, she hasn't a clue. Watching curiously as the kitsune girl moves over to the patio, Shinkan finishes her second roll and moves onto her third. Glancing all around the restaurant, she sighs, she can't remember if she even has parents. Doesn't matter, just get stronger, then do something about it. I need to train, too..., she muses, her eyes lighting upon Saku before moving back to the patio.
She can see Skye standing there, but the other's stance did not speak well. Something's wrong..., she realizes as the blond once again dials her phone in a hurried and tense fashion. Still, she's unconcerned, shes sure it's just some family problems, right? None of her business. But, just as she's reaching for her fourth maki roll, Skye falls to her knees and hides her face in her hands, the glint of tears unmistakable.
Alarmed, Shinkan rises from her seat and hurries over to her friend. Now the other girl simply kneels there, not moving, as if paralyzed. Her tears glint in the evening sun, tracking a smooth trail down her face. Her heart gives a heavy thump and Shinkan raises a hand to rest just over it. Why are you crying? What's wrong? Throwing a concerned look over her shoulder at Saku, she kneels down next to the silently crying girl. Why does it hurt so much to see her like this?
Shaking her head free of those thoughts, she scoots close to the hunched form of her friend. She doesn't know why the other is crying, is hurting so much, but she does know that she doesn't like to see her like this. It's nothing like the little blond's normal, bubbly behavior and it worries her. She doesn't know of anything that she can do to help her; she just does what her gut tells her to do.
So, crouching behind her friend, Shinkan wraps her arms around Skye, draping them over the other's shoulders and hugging tightly. Her long, unbound hair falls about the other's shoulders, shimmering softly in the sunlight, a warm mass of silver waves. She's still dirty from gardening, the heavy scent of the sun warmed earth and early evening greens that she'd handled, along with a touch of mint from the last plant she been attending to, all still thick on her. Leaning in, she rests her chin on her own left arm, her face held close to the other girl's hair and left ear. Breathing slowly and evenly, she simply holds Skye, her slates dark with her own emotions, swirling with sorrow and pain. Rocking, just barely, she stays that way, for as long as Skye will allow it, or need it.

(OOC: Wow, you guys are really outdoing yourselves here.)
Saku watched Shinkan with amusement as she ate one maki roll after another, he didn't really like them so he didn't mind all that much. "If you want..." He said quietly after taking another drink of tea. "You could come and train as well, you already have strength and I'd be more than happy to teach you some of the basics." He continued to smile though inwardly he could sense something was wrong, not from Shinkan but from Skye. His eyes slid to the left toward the patio but he couldn't see the blond from his angle, she must have been pacing while walking. "It-" He cut off when he sense the little blond fall to her knees and stood up abruptly, bumping the table slightly. His reflexes were slow again because Shinkan was already outside kneeling by Skye and he'd only just started to move.
He didn't have to use his senses to know that Skye was crying, he could feel the grief coming off the small girl in waves. He knelt by the pair and touched Skye's free shoulder, squeezing gently to let her know that her friends were here for her. He noticed the cell phone in her hands and, with great care, pried it from her hands. He already had an inkling as to what had happened but he hoped that he was wrong as he started to go through the phone's list of recently dialed numbers. Each number had a name on it, parents, aunts, uncles and so forth and each call was short, less than a minute and sometimes shorter than that. Saku let out a soft sigh through his nose, his fear was confirmed.
During his training years ago he as well as the other apprentices, had to learn about mythic creatures from around the world because many of them were very much real while others were fictitious. Included was Japanese creatures and Kitsune lore. When a kitsune, such as Skye, was born in human form with little or no knowledge of what he or she was, they would become victims of a cruel fate. Upon discovering what they truly were, whether it be by studying the lore, encountering another kitsune or reaching maturity; all familial ties with the human world were cut. Mothers, Fathers, brothers, sisters, all "blood" relations would lose any and all memory of the person in question. Saku cursed himself for not remembering sooner, he'd not wanted to remember anything about the clan and now it had cost his friend dearly.
He closed the phone and set it back down on the ground near Skye, leaned in close and whispered into her other ear. "I'm sorry.... I can't honestly say that I understand what you're going through....you lost your family...I...." He paused then pressed on. "I...threw mine away.... But that isn't important now, you are confused I'm sure, angry, sad.... but I want you to know that no matter what may come, you are not alone. Because you have me and Shinkan." He looked over at the silver haired girl for support before going on. "And we'll stand with you, through good times and bad, alright?"

The scent of the earth: sunlight infused dirt, plants, a hint of mint, and the feeling of thin, warm arms around her shoulders took Skye away from her shocked daze. She blinked a few times, sensation coming back to her. It was as if she had been out of her body, and suddenly, fell back in, back to reality, back to the tightness in her chest, the twisting of her stomach, the ache in her head, the pounding of her heart. She turned her head to the side and felt the ends of her short hair brushing against someone else. Her eyes met Shinkan, whose compassion needed no words.
"It can't be real," she whispered hoarsely, her throat crackling with newfound tears. She leaned back into Shinkan's arms, wishing she could disappear, for the first time feeling such a heavy weight within her. The end of her carefree days.
There was, she realized with incredible guilt and confusion, not an emptiness within her, but a feeling of being incredibly full. She felt complete after this heartbreaking loss, as if shedding one final layer that had been withholding her from the sunlight. It was the guilt that poured from her eyes, cascaded down her face in river that shone brilliantly in the fading glow of the sun. Her whole life up until this point, gone.
Saku's hand upon her other shoulder, warmer than the sunlight that touched her, another confirmation that she was here, now, that the world still spun on its axis, that she was still breathing, that life, indeed, must move forward. His words, gentle, but heavy with his own memories. She wondered what he had been through to have such weight in his voice and yet such compassion in his hands. She crossed her arms across her chest, holding Shinkan's forearm with one hand, and Saku's wrist with the other, pulling their compassion, their sympathy, their friendship into her. The warmth slowed her tears.
She did not even notice the transformation taking place, at least, not until she found herself curled up on Shinkan's lap. It must have been the shock that weakened her to her fox-form. The white kitsune ball lay between her front paws. Her golden-yellow fur looked like fire in the retreating daylight. Her large, pointed ears were doubled over in a mixture of loss and fatigue. She raised her large, indigo eyes, perhaps a little darker than they normally were, to look first up at Shinkan and then towards Saku, her fan of eight tails swinging back and forth.
She looked down at the cell phone. The outside screen had just blacked out. Skye blinked a few more times, a soft whine escaping her fox-form. Saku then spoke: "And we'll stand with you, through good times and bad, alright?"
She felt something in her chest rise, a flutter of hope. She realize that neither Shinkan or Saku had revealed anything about their families, save for a moment ago, when Saku confessed to throwing his away. Perhaps the three of them were one and the same. Perhaps they had met in this strange place for a reason. Perhaps they could help each other, and after all, wasn't that her duty as a kitsune?
Feeling a little braver, Skye gave a short bark, affirming Saku's promise. Her tails wagged with a bit of excitement now, brushing against the earth-stained shirt that Shinkan wore. The shock, she knew, would wear away eventually, and she found strength in the comfort of her friends. The hope rising within her was proof enough that it would be alright.

(OOC: Heh, loooong! XD )
Listening to Skye's words Shinkan only tightens her hold, her rocking motion slowing just a bit, trying to give comfort the best way she can, for she has no voice to speak her words. Yes, her words, they're hidden from her, so she simply goes with the action, all she can really do.
She feels Saku's presence standing over them and sees his large hand descend and rest upon the small blond's shoulder. Turning her head slightly, she gives the ninja a small smile, her slates filled with gratitude and her own pain. Again, she finds herself listening to the exchange of words between her two friends, but she doesn't mind, for she knows that people need someone to listen to them. Even someone without a voice needs it from time to time. Family? Threw it away? Family...., her breathe hitches at Saku's words, at his dark tone, but that's all that reveals her emotions. Do I have a family?, she wonders, a bit guiltily, for this is the first time that she's even given the subject a thought since waking up at the Inn. But soon enough, her attention is drawn away from her own inner turmoil and back to her friends.
Feeling Skye's hand on her arm, Shinkan stops rocking and simply hugs the smaller girl. She's glad that Saku knows what to say, for even if she'd had a voice, she wouldn't of known how to put her feelings into words. And what he says is true, for she agrees with the man, she will be there to support her friend for as long as she draws breathe. Eyes meeting Saku's, she nods, confirming what he said as true.
"And we'll stand with you, through good times and bad, alright?"
Again, she nods, her actions firm and decisive, her eyes showing her will. Raising her right hand slightly, she gestures to Saku, trying to tell him that she will be there for him as well, through thick and thin. Almost as soon as the ninja finishes talking, she feels Skye relaxing in her arms. Loosening her hold, she suddenly gets the odd sensation of prickles on her skin and then her companion begins to shrink! Blinking in surprise, the silver haired girl raises her arms slightly and stares down at Skye, now in fox form, curled in her lap. She's still not used to that!
Peering down at Skye fox, Shinkan suddenly breaks out into a cheerful smile when her friend gives a bark. It seems that she'll be fine, given time. Time blunts most pain, right? A small frown takes over her smile, her brow furrowing in confusion. Hmmm... that was odd, where'd that come from? The saying had been spoken, in her mind, in a soft, distinctly masculine voice. The tone had been slightly mocking, sinister, and a small shiver worms it's way down her spine.
Quickly putting it to the back of her mind, Shinkan instead reaches out and strokes her fingers along Skye's spine, marveling at the silky softness of the tiny fox's fur. Another smile, this one of delight, takes hold of her, for ever since seeing Skye in this form, she's wanted to pet her. Ryoku's cat, Nao, wouldn't let her touch him unless she let him bite her first, which kinda takes away from the moment (although she's done it, simply to feel that fur beneath her fingers). Hoping that her companion doesn't mind, she turns her grin towards Saku, and then returns her attention back to Skye, a feeling of contentment seeping into her, one that usually does when petting an animal. She doesn't know why she likes to pet small mammals, or why she feels such a need to do so, even going so far as to get bitten by the one she's petting, but she does. The simple things in life...

Saku smiled down at his two friends, slightly surprised that Skye had become a fox once more but he found that he was growing used to it slowly. The bark she gave seemed to be not quite happy but much better than whimpering, the tension in Saku's chest eased. He blinked and tilted his head to one side, when had there been tension? Probably thinking of his family had done that, he frowned. There it is again.....that tightness... He looked down at the girls and felt it ease then vanish, he had a connection to these two and they to him. Wether it was the connect of family or something else was unknown to him, but he knew that if he fell down, Skye and Shinkan would be there to pick him up again and that made him feel at ease. Something he'd not felt in a long time.
"Ahem...."
Saku looked up to see the waiter standing a polite distance away, surprise and concern on his face. Then he noticed that the other people in the restaurant were staring at them through the patio doors and windows as well. Saku looked back at the waiter.
"I'm sorry sir...but....animals....are not allowed, I'm afraid I must as you to leave....: Saku raised his eyebrows, surely the mane could see that Skye wasn't there but her clothes were and that she'd become the fox. "This isn't a wild fox, she's our friend." He explained but stopped when the waiter shook his head. "Pets are not allowed either save for seeing/eye dogs and you obviously can see so..." If Saku had fur, he would have bristled. But rather than speak his mind as he so wanted, he instead carefully gathered up Skye's things and stood, helping Shinkan to her feet. "Let's go then, we can eat at my place." He said to the pair of them quietly and gestured toward the main doors as he walked.

(OOC: No worries, Saku! It's not a contest. ) Skye had always been a huggable, cuddly-type person, so when Shinkan began petting her silky coat, Skye didn't mind in the least. It was soothing in an odd way, especially after such a big shock. And suddenly, her moment of peace was shattered with the voice of their waiter, evidently concerned and a little puzzled at the situation. Skye growled grumpily when he said there were no animals allowed inside. She still had a few maki rolls inside, and now that her stomach had settled a little, she was eager to get back to them. Her stomach emitted a low grumble in agreement. Again, Saku spoke, inviting them to join him at his own place for dinner. Relieved that there was a solution to this problem, Skye jumped to her feet, the kitsune ball between her small jaws. She noticed Saku had her clothes gathered and ready to go, and she hoped that once she got there she'd have enough energy to transform back without disgracing herself. Glancing at Shinkan, and in a considerably better mood, Skye danced around Saku's feet, excited to get some dinner in her stomach and in the company of her friends. Suddenly, from somewhere she was sure was out of normal earshot, she heard a faint bark, but not that of another fox. It sounded more dog-ish, and Skye felt a chill wind its way down her spine. Shaking it off, she continued to dance around Saku and Shinkan, ready to go eat!
